Baltimore Ravens May Have No Choice But to Cut Defensive Tackle Haloti Ngata

Ever since being drafted by Baltimore in the first round back in 2006, Haloti Ngata has been the rock of the Ravens defense. To be more precise, at his size (6'4" and 340 pounds) it may be more accurate to call him the boulder of the defense. At one point last year he led the Ravens with two interceptions and finished the season tied with C.J. Mosley for the team lead (2).

His value is unquestioned, but at $16 million next season he may be too expensive for the Ravens.

With the team only having $3.889 million in space after letting fellow defensive lineman Chris Canty go the team may have to let him go in order to create enough space for the team to sign running back Justin Forsett, especially considering that several teams have made it no secret they plan on aggressively pursuing Forsett.

The team will likely try to get him to take a pay cut, but to do would be completely up to Ngata and is highly unlikely. They are trying to restructure his deal to soften the cap blow, and could sign him to an extension to help spread out the cap blow.

If they are not able to get any relief through Ngata the next best choice will be defensive back Ladarius Webb who is scheduled to make $12 million.
