Cricket Fan Makes Possible $500K Catch in the Crowd During Zimbabwe-South Africa Game

Everyone knows about the Soccer World Cup, but there are other sports that have World Cups as well like rugby and cricket. The cricket world cup is currently underway in Australia and New Zealand, and like any other major sporting event it has several business sponsors. One of them is a New Zealand beer maker, the Tui Brewery, who is holding a rather unique contest that could make some lucky fans very rich.

They call it the Tui Catch a Million contest.

It's simple. When a hit (are they called hits in cricket?) goes in to the crowd during one of the 23 games hosted in New Zealand the lucky fan that makes a clean catch will win potentially up to $1 million. The total amount depends on how many people make catches and how far the New Zealand team makes it.

The pot starts out at $250,000, but if they make it to the quarterfinals it goes up to $350,000, $500,000 if they make it to the semifinals, $750,000 for the finals, and a million if they win.

American beer companies should take notice of this. Talk about a great promotion. You could team up with a baseball team and run it throughout the whole season with prize levels going up after a certain number of wins or if they make it to the post season. I believe to be eligible the cricket fans have to be wearing one of the orange shirts so the money could be made up on t-shirt sales alone.

I'm just saying...

The gentleman above is only the second fan to catch a ball so far and like the first he managed to do so without spilling his beer!
