Zach LaVine: I Could Beat LeBron James in a Dunk Contest

The Dunk Contest took an old school turn Saturday night and did something that it had not done in years. It featured nothing but dunks. No props. No crazy entrances (Oladipo's Sinatra wasn't too bad). Nothing really theatrical. No jumping over people. It was all about the dunk. That is exactly what the fans have been clamoring for and that is exactly what they got.

In the end Zach LaVine gave the fans and judges the best show and was named the winner. The fact that he won was not shocking, but what was a little surprising was what he said on Sunday.

When he was asked whether he could beat LeBron James in a dunk contest, arguably the premier dunker in the league today and for the last few years.

Maybe it really isn't too surprising. LaVine is a young, talented basektball player that has been playing an competing at a high level for years. He should be confident in his abilities and think that he can beat whomever he comes up against. What is a shame though is that we will never find out.

In an interview over the All-Star Weekend he was asked about the dunk contest and admitted he regrets not having participated in it, but at this point in his career he is over the hill.
