Former Kentucky Player and First Round Pick Kicked Out of Philippine Basketball Association For Insulting Manny Pacquiao

One of the cool things about professional sports these days is that you don't necessarily have to make it in one of the major leagues in order to keep playing. Baseball has always had the minor leagues, football players can go to the Arena League, and basketball players can go over seas. That is what former Kentucky player and first round pick Daniel Orton ended up doing, but his career in the Phillipines has come to an unexpected end for an odd reason.

He insulted Manny Pacquiao.

Orton played only one season at Kentucky before declaring for the draft (shocker) where he was taken with the 29th pick in the firs round by Orlando. After three years in the NBA with three teams (Orlando, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia) he went to China (in 2014) to continue his career before landing in the Phillipines with the Purefood Star Hotshots .

His time with them came to an end when he foolishly decided to question Manny's basketball skills.

"Professional boxer, yeah, okay... professional basketball player, no. It's a joke," Orton said in response to playing against Pacquiao in a local pro league game.

You would think that after his first few days in country he would have learned how beloved Manny Pacquiao is by his countrymen. His comments made people mad and resulted in a fine of 25,000 pesos before he was eventually cut.
