Michael Irvin Responds to Jerry Rice Saying Everyone Cheated Back in the Day

Back in the 1990s two of the best wide receivers in the game were San Francisco 49ers superstar Jerry Rice and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin. Recently Jerry Rice caused a bit of a controversy when he admitted to using stick'um during his playing days and tried to okay it by saying that everyone did back in his day.

Irvin, being one of those receivers, took exception with Rice's comments that effectively labeled him a cheater.

Apparently a lot of people have been asking Irvin about the accusation, but he did not want to dignify them with a reply. In a radio interview Thursday he finally did talk about Rice's comments:
"I love Jerry Rice, but that's what everybody says. 'Oh, everybody did it.' That's the oldest defense in the world. I didn't use Stickum. I never used Stickum, didn't need Stickum, didn't believe in Stickum. I wouldn't do it. Troy (Aikman) would go off on me if I put Stickum on his footballs. You see what I'm saying? Stop asking me this junk. I didn't feel like I should answer it. I have not answered one (tweet) on it."
Cris Carter, another one of the top receivers from that Era commented on the issue as well pointing out that Rice was not talking about him or for him:

Jerry Rice is one of the greatest to ever play the game, but now you have to kind of wonder a little. How much was him and how much was the stickum? How often did he use it? Should an asterix be placed next to any or all of his records?

Way to tarnish your own legacy Jerry.
