The Atlanta Falcons made the move Thursday that many expected they would make when they let running back Steven Jackson go. The former Oregon State product was not the yardage machine that he was in St. Louis and cutting him freed up $3.75 million in cap space, but he may not be the only back that the Falcons say goodbye to.
Don't be surprised if Jacquizz Rodgers ends up playing somewhere else next season.

Rodgers is scheduled to become a free agent come March 10 and it is not certain that the team is even going to try to bring him back. New offensive coordinator Kyle Shannahan has made it no secret that he wants a workhorse running back, one that can gain four yards a carry and move the chains.
That is not what Rodgers is good at. He, much like the team's other remaining running back Devonta Freeman is more of a speedster that works best in open space and is good receiving threat out of the backfield. As nice as having a guy like that can be, Shannahan sees pass-catching as a bonus in his running backs, not a necessity.
Since he already has one guy like that under contract in Freeman he doesn't need Rodgers.
