Melvin Gordon Thinks the Dallas Cowboys Should Keep DeMarco Murray

The Dallas Cowboys appeared to finally get their act together last season on offense thanks to their ability to establish a running game, something they have not been able to do for some time. As nice as it was, it may not last. Two of the main components, wide receiver Dez Bryant and running back DeMarco Murray, are set to become free agents and will cost a pretty penny. Jerry Jones has already said it is unlikely both come back (to be more precise he said it would be a challenge to bring both back).

That could open the door wide open for someone like Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon to become the Cowboys first round pick, but he thinks the team should keep Murray.

Gordon is going to be in Dallas Friday to receiver the Doak Walker Award for being the nation's best running back last season. In a phone interview Thursday he didn't sound too enthused about his chances of getting drafted by the Cowboys.

Not because he didn't want to be, but because he thinks they should keep Murray:
“They’re still trying to figure out what they’re going to do,” Gordon said by phone Thursday (via DallasNews). “If I were them, I would try to keep DeMarco Murray. He’s a phenomenal player.
“But that’s a tough decision because Dez (Bryant) is great, too. If they could find a way to keep both of them, that would be great.”
What more could we expect him to say? They should let Murray go and draft me because I'd love to play for Dallas? Of course not. He gave and honest answer.

That being said, depending on how the drama plays out the Cowboys may need to draft a running back. With the potential trouble surrounding Bryant and Adrian Peterson making his desire to play for Dallas well known the nucleus in Dallas could be quite different next season. Should they not pick up Peterson or resign Murray Gordon could be their guy.
