Buffalo Bills Trade Draft Picks to Minnesota Vikings for Matt Cassel

Last season the Buffalo Bills had one of the best defenses in the NFL and it is expected to be just as good if not better under new head coach Rex Ryan. As soon as the trade for LeSean McCoy goes through the offense will take a huge step forward in becoming truly competitive as well. They are just missing one thing--a quarterback.

Thanks to a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, it looks like the Buffalo Bills will now have Matt Cassell to battle E.J. Manuel for playing time.

A day after news of the pending trade for LeSean McCoy went public the team traded a fifth round pick and seventh round pick in the coming draft for Matt Cassell and a sixth round pick. For the Vikings the deal makes sense. Cassell is not worth the $4.75 million cap hit as a starter or as a reserve. Unless Teddy Bridgewater gets broken in half there is no way he plays anyway.

For the Bills, they may be hoping that they get lucky two years in a row by signing another older player (like Kyle Orton). Cassell has played well in the past and is a capable quarterback. He will some good tools to work with in McCoy and wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

It would not be surprising to see the Bills go after another wide receiver early in order to give whoever their quarterback is more to work with.
