West Virginia was never in this game. It looked more like a No. 1 seed playing a No. 16 seed rather than a No. 5. Afterwards a couple of the Kentucky players had something to say about the pregame trash talk.
According to Tyler Ulis embarrassing the Mountaineers was a goal:
"Our whole plan was to crush their spirit. Beat em by 50 for disrespecting us" --- Tyler Ulis

Devin Booker's tweet said it best though:

WCS: "It's tough to talk and not be able to back it up."

West Virginia knew what it was getting in to with Kentucky. When you are playing the best team in the nation you have to do whatever you can to try and get an edge. If that means trying to manufacture confidence by talking trash than you do it.
The only problem is if you lose you better be prepared to have it thrown back in your face.
