Philadelphia Eagles Trade LeSean McCoy to Buffalo Bills

The AFC East became a lot more interesting after a trade between the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills. It appears that the Eagles are going to trade running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso (so says Adam Schefter).

There have been rumors that the Eagles may have been considering asking McCoy to take a pay cut in order to help create some space under the salary cap, but it appears Chip Kelly decided to do something else instead.

The move likely means the end of C.J. Spiller in Buffalo unless the team can talk him in to taking a reduced  role. Rex Ryan has been a big fan of using a two-running back system in the past, and even succeeded in making Mark Sanchez look good for a couple years doing so.

Chip Kelly is going to get a defender that he knows well having coached him at Oregon, but Alonso is also coming off of knee surgery. There is no guarantee  that he will be able to return to form.

At the same time, McCoy's numbers took a dramatic dip last season from 2013 (2,146 yards from scrimmage in 2013 to just 1,474 last year; 5.1 to 4.2 yards a carry. It could be that he is betting on the younger Alonso being able to bounce back than the older McCoy who has carried the ball 1461 times in his career.

Whatever the logic the two teams had it makes for a pretty trade that could carry a significant impact going forward. The Bills are now just a quarterback away from being a legitimate contender and with question marks surrounding the Eagles at QB the team now has two huge holes to fill on offense.
