Should the Cleveland Browns Bring Miles Austin Back?

Miles Austin has had a solid career over the last nine years. Last season he was not lights out for the Cleveland Browns, but he did have a good season catching 47 balls for 568 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games before going on the IR. However, the Browns only had him on a one year deal and he is now a free agent free to go to whomever makes the right offer first.

With Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline now on the roster should the Browns try to resign him?

It all depends on the perspective you want to take on. On one hand he is a veteran wide receiver and could be a good role model for the younger wide receivers on the roster. On the other is he really needed? Bowe and Hartline are going to be the No. 1 and 2 options with Josh Gordon likely going to be out for the season again.

So sign Austin to be the No. 3 guy, right? Well...Andrew Hawkins saw more action than Austin did last season with 63 receptions for 823 yards. Taylor Gabriel had fewer catches (36), but more yards (621). Either of these guys would make for a capable No. 3 and they are already on the roster.

Should they resign him? It looks like they don't need him. However, he only cost the team a grand total of $2 million last season. In the NFL Economy that is peanuts for a guy that has been a game changer at times during his career.

So--sign him? Eh--not yet. Let him see that he has no other options first and since there hasn't really been any chatter about him that shouldn't take long. Then go ahead and sign him to a veteran minimum deal with nothing guaranteed.

It can't hurt.
