Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Lovie Smith Laughs at Being Called a Defensive Guru

During his time with the Chicago Bears Lovie Smith become known as a defensive guru. During most of his tenure with the Bears his team had a pretty solid defense, and with the exception of one season with a prep school when he coached wide receivers and defensive backs he has always worked on the defensive side of the ball. So it is easy to see where he got the name.

When he was called a "defensive guru" by a member of the press Wednesday morning he was a little taken aback.

Apparently after the season his Buccaneers had last year he doesn't feel worthy:

A reporter just called Lovie Smith a defensive guru. He responded "I haven't heard that one in a while. You know I was 2-14 last season?"

Either that or he was being a goof. You gotta love a guy that doesn't take himself too seriously.
