It is not uncommon for superstars to work within the community of their respective teams. There is nothing like a little face time among the people to make sure the people really don't want to ever see you go. Guys that don't will find the fans could care less if the team wants to trade him or release him. Results on the field matter the most of course, but it never hurts to make sure the people love you for more than your gridiron skill.
For example, if the Texans ever think of trading J.J. Watt the fans in Houston may riot.

Ever since he came to Houston Watt has been heavily involved in the community. He has stood up for several kids that were getting bullied, bought lunch for the Houston Police Department and Fire Department, spoken to many youth teams, helped out at a local food bank--the list could go on and on.
His latest act of kindness was to send a fan battling cancer a nice video to say thanks for her support:
