Trent Richardson Needs to Stop Drinking the Crazy Kool Aid

The Indianapolis Colts finally made the move that fans have been hoping would happen for sometime. They cut the most under-performing first round running back in recent history, Trent Richardson. The former Alabama stud was a dud for the Cleveland Browns who had to be ecstatic when Indianapolis offered a first round pick.

You would think that a guy who has the distinction of having the lowest per carry average in NFL history (3.31 yards/carry) would leave graciously, but instead he took a long, hard drink of the crazy Kool Aid and made some interesting comments.

From the Colts perspective they had a guy that refused to put in the work that was needed. Fourteen times the team fined him for being overweight. The weight gain caused him to lose his burst, and when he had a chance to own the position after Ahmad Bradshaw was injured he skipped a meeting. Rather than work harder he started to coast instead.

Chuck Pagano defended his running back as long as he could, but eventually had to bench him.

If you listen to Richardson though, the problem in Indianapolis was not him at all. Instead, he put it off on Colts general manager Ryan Grigson claiming that he and Grigson never saw eye to eye. He called it a bad marriage. As for the weight gain he had an excuse for that:
"We had made an agreement where I'd weigh 230 pounds, but it turns out that I was supposed to be 227 pounds and they didn't tell me that," Richardson said. "We've got a list of things we can use against the Colts where I can get my money back. They were fining me for failing to meet conduct code. Not making weight is not conduct code."
According to Richardson greatness is right around the corner for him. He has compared himself to Marshawn Lynch who exploded when he changed teams a few years in to his career. He claims that he will start for his next team and will be the guy that the Browns and Colts had wanted.
“Right now, I’m training until whoever wants a running back that runs downhill calls,” Richardson said. “Whoever it is, I guarantee you it’ll be the last place I play at. I guarantee you that. I’ll never be traded unless I want to be traded. Being released will never happen again.”
He may have a hard time finding an opportunity especially since he does nothing, but offer excuses and blame others for his failure. Until he realizes that he is jobless because he has played like crap ever since he entered the NFL he is not going to succeed anywhere.
