Wife of Soccer Ref Killed By Player He Was Ejecting Gives Killer Red Card at Sentencing

If you ever needed to hear why you should never take a game too seriously this is it. Last June in Michigan a soccer referee was just doing his job when he ejected a player from one of the teams in the game he was working. For some stupid reason the player thought it would be a good idea to argue the call and he attacked the ref knocking him out with one punch.

The ref, John Bieniewicz, died from the injury two days later in the hospital.

The player/killer, Bassel Abdul-Amir Saad, was charged with manslaughter and convicted receiving a sentence of 8-15 years. At his sentencing hearing  John's wife Kris got the chance to address the court and her husband's killer.

After expressing dismay over the light sentence she presented Bassel with the red card that her husband had tried to present.

"I would like to serve Mr. Saad with the red card that he was entitled to," she said.
