Army Ditching "Black Knights" Nickname for Former Nickname and a New Logo

In college football we see many schools come out with a host of new uniforms every season, but we do not see anyone actually go through a complete re-branding. Yes, they may update their uniforms, but that's where it stops. However, there will be one school going for an all out rebrand next season, and you'll never guess who.

The U.S. Military Academy.

West Point's football team will no longer be known as the Army Black Knights next season, but will revert back to the name it went by prior to 1999, the Cadets. It's the name they went by prior to changing it to the unofficial nickname the team had back then of the Black Knights (because of their black uniforms).

The Academy made the official announcement in a press release on Monday:
Army Athletics, in partnership with Nike, will introduce a new brand and identity system that will include new logos, lettering and numerals showcased by all 28 athletic programs on Monday, April 13.
With the goal of developing an innovative and consistent athletic identity that pays tribute to the Academy's legacy and tradition,Army Athletics, U.S. Army and Academy leadership, Nike, current and former cadet-athletes, coaches, historians and West Point graduates, collaborated on a nearly 18-month brand evolution program....
If you want to see the new logo and revamped uniforms they will be unveiled on April 13 at 8 PM at goARMYsports.com via an online video stream.
