Former New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez Found Guilty of Murder

It has been a long time coming, but it is finally here. The trial of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been concluded and the verdict turned in. He has been found guilty of first-degree murder for shooting Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old landscaper and amateur weekend football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

The conviction comes with a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no parole.

Why Lloyd was killed was never discovered during the trial. Hernandez's lawyers had tried a last ditch move during closing arguments of admitting that he was present when Lloyd was killed, but was not the person who killed him. His lawyers tried to pin it on Hernandez's friends, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, saying that he was just a 23-year old kid that didn't know what to do.

Prosecutors have suggested that Lloyd was killed because he knew too much about Hernandez's involvement in a 2012 drive-by shooting in Boston. Since it was just speculation the idea was not allowed to be presented at trial.
