Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Says He Was Kinda Forced Out At NC State

Russell Wilson's story is pretty well known at this point in his career. He started his college career at NC State where he played football in the fall and baseball for the Colorado Rockies minor league system in the spring. He left Wisconsin after the 2011 season and ended up transferring to Wisconsin for his final season of eligibility.

After a solid year with the Badgers he told the Rockies he would not come back because he wanted to pursue a football career. The rest is history.

What exactly happened at NC State though? Things seemed to be going well. He played football in the fall and baseball in the spring. His coach wasn't crazy about it, but what coach would be okay with his starting quarterback out for every spring practice?

In an upcoming episode of Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel Wilson finally talks about what happened during his final days with the Wolfpack:
"You know, he was my head coach, you know, NC State," Wilson says. "Kinda kicked me out of NC State a little bit. But, you know, at the same time ..."
Gumbel called Wilson on the "little bit" line and Wilson responded with:
"Yeah ... I'll never forget it," Wilson says. "You know, I'll never forget the times that people have told me that I couldn't do something."
In January 2011 Wilson told the Rockies he was going to report to spring training. Then NC State head coach Tom O'Brien expressed his reservations with the decision and talked about his time commitment to football. After a failed attempt to get him invited to the NFL Combine O'Brien went ahead and released Wilson from his scholarship.

So apparently O'Brien wanted Wilson to focus on football and he didn't want to. So O'Brien basically cut his starting quarterback.

Wilson ended up in Wisconsin and the rest is history.
