Bengals Offensive Tackle Andrew Whitworth Didn't Mean to Send Tweet Blasting Team President

One of the hardest things for a professional football player to face is the end of his career. It never comes when you want it, it always comes too early, and it never comes on your terms. For Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth it appears the writing is on the wall. After the team spent two draft picks on offensive lineman including their first round pick it stands to reason the team has no intention of extending him.

As it turns out they told him as much and as you can imagine he wasn't very happy about it. So--like most angry soon to be unemployed football players he took to Twitter to vent.

Wednesday afternoon this tweet was sent out from his account:
"Mike Brown told me I'm done here," the tweet from Whitworth's account read. "Said I can play this year and go home. So I told him I want a raise or I'll sit my ass at home this …"
As could be expected, the tweet was deleted shortly after it was sent. Whitworth has since stated that it was an accident. His wife was trying to send a message to a teammate and accidentally tweeted it out in to the virtual world for all to see instead.

In an attempt to do some damage control Whitworth went ahead and deleted his account, but later reactivated it as a private one.

He has not held back how he feels about not getting an extension and has been critical of how the Bengals have handled his contract situation. So an angry tweet from him was not really surprising. He likely could have left well enough alone and no one would have taken much notice.

Yeah, bashing a team president would garner some attention, but it happens all the time--who cares?
