Tampa Bay Buccaneers Drafted Nebraska WR Kenny Bell on Advice of GM Jason Licht's Dad

In the latter rounds of the draft it can be hard for teams to figure out who the best player left is that can help the team. Even the best scouting departments are bound to miss something. It can't hurt to get an outside opinion to help make a decision.

According to Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht that's what led to the Bucs drafting Nebraska wide receiver Kenny Bell in the fifth round.

The way Licht tells the story he and Lovie Smith got a text from his Dad during the third day of the draft telling them they needed to pick Nebraska wide receiver Kenny Bell.

According to Licht's dad Ron who is a longtime Nebraska supporter, Bell was one of the best wide receivers the school has ever seen. A good kid, he works hard and has soft, strong hands. Ron sold Bell enough to his son and Lovie Smith that they went ahead and drafted him,

Licht's dad says his son is embellishing the story a little, but so what. It makes for an entertaining inside look at the draft.
