Recently the NFL announced a whole bunch of drug related suspensions among them a one-game suspension for Green Bay Packers defensive end Datone Jones. Fans were a little surprised by this especially since it was just a one-game suspension. This meant that he did not test positive for anything otherwise he would have been hit with a four game suspension.
So what did he do? Thanks to some recent news reports we now know.

It appears that Jones was cited for marijuana possession after the NFC title game. The whole thing went down after the team returned from the NFC title game. Around midnight a woman called the police to report a suspicious situation in a parking lot. The woman said there was loud music coming from a jeep and that what appeared to have been a drug deal went down.
A car responded to the call and upon investigation they saw a jeep that had the distinct odor of marijuana coming from it. When approached Jones became upset and told officers he was the first round pick of the Green Bay Packers from 2013.
When all was said and done he was cited for possession, convicted, and he paid the $880 fine.
Some will use this is proof that the NFL needs to adjust its drug policy, but that is not what needs to be done at all. He knew what he was doing was against the law and the rules set forth by the collective bargaining agreement yet he chose to violate the rules anyway.
He's lucky its only one game.
