Kansas City Chiefs Sign Eastern Illinois Wide Receiver Adam Drake After He Writes The Team A Letter

The Kansas City Chiefs may have opened a door that is not going to close very easily. After a running back tweeted his highlight reel to the team they signed him (and cut him a few days later). It appears that they have now signed a player that just wrote them a letter.

That's it.

Adam Drake was a pretty good receiver for Eastern Illinois the last few years hauling in 202 catches for 2,979 yards and 26 touchdowns. In 2014 he had 93 catches for 1,321 yards and 12 touchdowns; good enough to be named a 2014 first-team All-OVC selection and third-team All-American selection by The Associated Press.

So the boy has skills.

He had groin surgery after his Pro Day in March, and spent time in mini-camp with the Patriots and Saints, but wasn't offered a contract. After sitting around home for awhile and unsure what else he could do, his Dad had a suggestion.
“My dad actually had me write a letter to the Chiefs just to let them know I had surgery after Pro Day,” Drake said Tuesday, “just to let them know my surgery is 100 percent healed and I’m good to go. They called me later that night and told me they were going to fly me out for a tryout.”

He could end up like the running back of course and get cut within a few days, but it doesn't matter. He still made it to camp simply because he wrote a letter (sounds like a commercial waiting to happen for the Postal Service).
