NFL Drops Investigation Of Referee Ed Hochuli From Panthers-Saints Game

After the Carolina Panthers beat the New Orleans Saints the world was treated to one of the most outlandish accusations ever heard. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton claimed that longtime referee Ed Hochuli told him he didn't get a roughing the passer call because he was too young.

It was a heck of an accusation made by Newton against a ref that most typically respect. The NFL did what it should and looked into the accusation--and they are already done.

The league doesn't think Hochuli did anything wrong. It seems like the bulk of their evidence is a video of the exchange and Hochuli's adamant denial that he never said what Newton claims

"Ed was adamant that he did not say that," Dean Blandino said. "He told me that he said (to Newton) that 'the difference is you were running.' I think when you look at the tape it does look like Ed did say (the difference is you were running). I think that's where we are right now and we're just going to kind of move on from there."

Whether you believe Cam or Ed doesn't matter anymore since the investigation is now done. If only Deflate Gate could have been decided so quickly...
