Piitsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin Might Want To Save Ben Roethlisberger from Himself

When Pittsburgh Steelers fans saw their quarterback go down with an injury yet again their hearts had to drop. An injury killed their hopes for postseason glory last season, and even though they lost running back Le'Veon Bell for the season and lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for a number of games earlier in the season they still had hope.

However, after losing Big Ben to yet another injury for a few weeks the outlook is a little grim. That is until Roethlisberger said not to count him out for this week's game against Cleveland.

What? Didn't the doctors say his mid-foot sprain should take a few weeks to heal? Yes--but everyone heals differently and everyone's pain threshold is different as well. With the beatings that Roethlisberger has taken over the years it is clear that his threshold is pretty high.

Maybe he is going to come back sooner than we think; just not this week. Then the news breaks that he has shed his walking boot and was practicing Thursday; limited, but he was practicing.

So--does that mean this week is possible?

In Big Ben's head it probably does, but that is where Mike Tomlin needs to sit his quarterback down and have a little talk. Yes, it is great that he can handle the pain and play, but what if playing hurts it worse, the pain becomes too much, and he is forced to sit later in the season--or in the playoffs?

Shut him down Mike Tomlin. Force him to stay off his foot and let it heal. Have him sit this week, stay off of it during the bye week, and then come back for the Seattle game on November 29.
