Drew Brees Ends his TD Streak in Epic Fashion

How many times have you been in contention for something, worked your butt off to get it, and then fell short in the end; close but no cigar? Were you okay with it? Did you feel okay with coming in a real close second? Or do you see it as the Iceman in Top Gun did?

"The plaque for the alternates is in the ladies room.”

Like most of you out there I hate to lose. I never play for second, but I can remember too many times where I fell just short of winning. Some of the time I can remember thinking, “Damn! Almost wish I’d crashed and burned instead!”

So what’s the point of my little personal reveal? I think it is something that Drew Brees can relate to after Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. With his record on the line he didn’t just barely miss it; the man crashed and burned.

Good ole Drew is the driver behind one of the most prolific passing attacks in the NFL. New Orleans’s passing attack is so good that Brees has managed to throw at least one passing touchdown in his last 54 consecutive games (an NFL record).

Well, that record came to a crashing halt against the Falcons as Brees had a little trouble completing passes to his guys, but had little trouble completing them with the Falcons. When the night was finally over Atlanta had picked him off five times, a new career high.

The sad thing is that even though he turned the ball over five times the Saints should have won that game.

Atlanta couldn’t do much against one of the worst defenses in the league. Matt Ryan only completed 54.5 percent of his passes for 165 yards. On the night the offense only had 283 yards next to 436 for the Saints.

If only Brees could have completed a few more of his 50 passes to his guys instead of the Falcons…
