Their victim--defending Big 12 champion Kansas State.
At first it looked like the game was going to be exactly what it was meant to be. Kansas State was up 21-7 in the third quarter when everything fell apart. The Bison closed the game with three consecutive scoring drives including an 18-play, 8 1/2 minute drive for the go ahead touchdown making the final score 24-21.
If there was ever a game that was primed for an FBS/FCS upset it was this one. Kansas State is in rebuilding mode after losing some key starters from last season's conference championship run. North Dakota State? The exact opposite.
This season they return 18 starters including a quarterback that is starting his fourth season. They are the two-time defending FCS champions. Over the last two seasons the Bison have lost just two games by a combined total of six points.
If that wasn't enough--North Dakota State has defeated an FBS team in each of the last four seasons.
So yeah, if there was ever an upset in the making it was this game.
