Florida State QB Jameis Winston Looks Like the Real Deal Against Pitt

Prior to Monday night's game against the Pitt Panthers most of the college football loving world knew FSU's red-shirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston as the guy that didn't want to catch Manziel disease. After he decimated the Pitt defense in a near perfect performance I'd say that it is safe to say that the youngster is the real deal.

Winston was the picture of poise in the pocket and had no trouble picking apart the Pitt defense completing 25 of 27 passes on the night for 356 yards and four touchdowns. He also had another touchdown on the ground.

So as a first time starter on national television away from home he carved up his opponent in a near perfect manner. Not bad, right? It was actually a little better than it looks.

He had a single incomplete pass in each half. The one in the second half was probably the only mistake Winston made all night (he tried to force it in to a player that was well covered). His first half incomplete pass was actually complete, but the wide receiver landed out of bounds.

Now before we anoint him as the next greatest thing on Earth it was only one game. While the Pitt pass defense was one of the best last season I have no idea if it is supposed to be any good now. With the schedule that the Seminoles have we may have to wait till October 19 to find out if this is the exception or the norm. That's when they take on Clemson.

Than again, if he Winston and the Seminoles flop against either Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, Boston College, and Maryland than I suppose that will be pretty telling as well.
