Michael Vick Book Signings Cancelled Due to Death Threats

Michael Vick was scheduled to go on a mini-book signing tour to promote his new book. However, after the Eagles quarterback received a number of death threats, Barnes and Noble--the chain hosting Vick's signings--opted to cancel the appearances.

The bookstore's Facebook page had a number of comments threatening violence towards Michael Vick like:
“I would go there to slit your throat knowing how you treat animals.”
“hope your kids don’t fall in a pool with a battery.”
“I would snap your neck if I met you, your [sic] a piece of trash.”
The internet has done a lot for our society, but sadly it has given some individuals a means to make threats that they would normally have never made. Anonymity seems to make people brash enough to say some pretty terrible things.

In our current world where it seems to be nothing for crazy folks to come out of the woodwork and actually follow up on something like this Barnes and Noble opted to err on the side of caution. As often as people make threats online and in some cases carry them out it is impossible to tell who means it and who doesn't.

It is a smart move to cancel the appearances. These days we do have too many shootings going on, and it seems like more often than not there is some sort of indicator--like online threats of violence--that precipitated the act.

Before you brush it off as "it's just Michael Vick and he deserves it for what he did those animals" think of the many innocent people at the book store that would have been collateral damage.
