Bryce Harper was supposed to be a big deal when he was drafted by the Washington Nationals out of junior college. There have been plenty of athletes that were thought to be the next big thing when they were coming through the ranks in high school and/or college (or junior college).
So in that respect Harper is nothing special-- except he is actually backing it up.
Last season he had a solid rookie campaign, and so far this season he is doing a tremendous job of building on it. As of the end of action Saturday he is batting .371 with seven home runs--two of which he added against the Mets--and 14 RBIs. Yeah. I think it is safe to say this kid is the real deal.
