Darrelle Revis Traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Well apparently when the New York jets said they were not looking to trade their superstar cornerback, Darrelle Revis, they didn't mean it. Revis Island is moving to Tampa Bay.

Shocker.

All off-season the Jets have been operating on the notion that if they say it then we will believe it. In spite of all the mis-direction and denials coming from the Jets front office the world pretty much knew that they were trying to trade Revis.

Don't they realize that there is always an underling or two that is more than happy to spill the beans?

After weeks of denying it, but working on a deal it has finally happened. Revis hopped on a plane early Sunday to take a physical with the Bucs. By early afternoon the word had spread across the internet that he was indeed traded.

The exact compensation package is not known at this time, but it is believed that the Jets are going to get Tampa Bay's first round pick in the coming draft as well as a third round pick.

On one hand I have to say congratulations to Revis. Getting out of New York was one of the smartest things he could do for his career. The Jets are going to be just as much of a circus this year as they have in recent seasons. As talented as he is, he needs to be on a team that at least has an outside shot of the post season.

The Jets are no where near even dreaming of having an outside shot or any other kind of shot at post season glory (not until they ditch Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez).

That being said--the Bucs are not much closer. Greg Schiano is a solid coach, but Josh Freeman is a shaky starting quarterback at best. Doug Martin gives the Bucs a good running attack, but his work will be cut out for him since the rest of the league knows that Freeman is not going to beat them with his arm.

Getting out of NYC was a pretty big carrot, but Revis is still going to be sitting at home come January. My only guess is that he is not planning on staying in Tampa Bay too long; either that or he just wants to get paid and doesn't care about winning or losing.

At least his island is in a nicer climate.
