I know a lot of guys are going to take the time to wax poetic when they write up something on the Colts win over the Broncos on Sunday Night Football; something about the new guy beating the old guy; a changing of the guard; this is no longer Peyton's House.
Not me. Bottom line is this--two awesome teams took the field and only one could win but the big winner was not the Colts.
From Bleacher Report |
The final score (39-33; 799 total yards offense) makes it look like the defenses stunk but that was far from it. Indianapolis forced three turnovers from the Broncos including the key fumble by Ronnie Hillman late in the game that really took any real chance Denver had away.
Then there were the sacks. If anyone can comeback from turnovers it is Peyton Manning, but the Colts were relentless with the pressure and managed to get to him four times--one of them resulting in a safety and a short field that led to a touchdown on the next possession.
Denver had a pair of sacks and a turnover as well in the game, but the star on the field Sunday night was easily the Colts defense.
So what we had here was one of the greatest of all time having an awesome game and one of the superstars of the future doing the same. The home crowd got to see their former favorite son do well while seeing their current favorite do better.
Great offense. Great defense. Heck--we even had a punter smack someone!
Great game. Yeah, I'd say that makes the fans the big winners.
