At first it appeared like it was going to be another hard fought, well-pitched game with Jake Peavy on the mound for the Red Sox and Doug Fister for the Tigers. Boston managed a hit in the first inning and another in the second, but failed to do anything with the runners.
Detroit was three up, three down in the first, but than the second; well, in the second it got a little crazy.
The Tigers exploded for five runs to get out to an early 5-0 lead and here is how the scoring went down:
- Austin Jackson walked, Víctor Martínez scored,Jhonny Peralta to third, Álex Ávila to second
- José Iglesias grounded into fielder's choice,Jhonny Peralta scored, Álex Ávila to third, Austin Jackson out at second
- Torii Hunter doubled to left, Álex Ávila and José Iglesias scored
- Miguel Cabrera singled to shallow center, Torii Hunter scored
With three hits and three walks the Tigers scored five runs; not a bad inning's work.
