After Saturday night and an upset win over LSU (27-24) it may be time to add Ole Miss to that list.
Going into Saturday's game against LSU the Rebels were in danger of seeing the season slip away. After losing a tough one to Texas A&M last weekend the team fell to 3-3 on the season and just 1-3 in conference play. It was not a good position to be in with a lot of tough games still on the schedule.
So what do they do? They prove that it wasn't just a poor A&M defense that let them light up the scoreboard last week. No, these boys are pretty darn good in there own right.
LSU is known for having one of the toughest defenses around, but they could not slow down Ole Miss. On the season the Tigers had been allowing right around 350 yards a game. The Rebels gouged them for 526!
That number was due in large part to the work of running back Jaylen Walton who had 106 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
That Bo Wallace kid ain't half bad either. He didn't have any touchdown passes on the day (that belonged to Barry Brunetti), but he did complete 77 percent of his passes for 347 yards.
LSU is too good of a team to be beaten by offense alone. The Ole Miss D was more than happy to step up to the plate and intercept LSU QB Zach Mettenberger three times.
The win does just improve the Rebels to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference; not exactly looking to compete for any titles or anything this season unless some other teams suffer epic fails for the remainder of the season.
But when you combine last week's near-win with this win over LSU you better believe that still has Ole Miss on their schedule is taking notice--and probably sweating just a little.
