South Carolina QB Connor Shaw Has a Sprained Knee; No Time Table on a Return Yet

Going into the game against Tenessee you know that Steve Spurrier was confident that his boys could handle the Tennessee Volunteers. Why else would he talk trash about the Vols earlier in the week? Part of the reason cold be just because he finds it fun, but after losing the game and his starting quarterback to injury you almost expect to see Jen Bielema talk about karma.

From Bleacher Report
Tennessee got out to a 17-7 halftime lead on South Carolina in spite of Jadeveon Clowney finally having a beast of a first half. The Gamecocks battled back in the third quarter to take a 21-17 lead thanks to quarterback Connor Shaw and running back Mike Davis.

The team did a good job shutting down the Volunteers offense, but obviously not good enough since Tennessee was able to eek out a win a 23-21 thanks to a last second field goal.

Going forward the problem for the Gamecocks is the health of Shaw's knee. The early word on it is that there is no ligament damage (according to the MRI) and that his left knee has suffered a sprain. I have yet to hear if there are going to be additional tests coming Sunday or Monday to confirm the diagnosis, but it would not be surprising if there was.

Sprains can be pretty tricky. Ohio State thought Braxton Miller's was not that serious, but they ended up holding him out for a few weeks. That could have been because the competition they had ahead of them was not that serious and back-up QB Kenny Guiton was playing well.

South Carolina does not have that luxury with the undefeated Missouri Tigers up next.
