Michigan State Beats Nebraska for First Time in Spite of Off Day

It may sound strange to say that a defense had an off day when it forces five turnovers in a game, but when you factor in the fact that the unit gave up more rushing yards than in any other game as well as more total yards it does.

With the help of a fake field goal attempt the Spartans were able to overcome their woes to beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the first time.

About midway through the final quarter the Spartans set up to kick a field goal on fourth and one to take a nine point lead. Had they done it the Cornhuskers would have been forced to score twice in order to win. Rather than leave the game withing reach the Spartans opted to go for the first--which they made!

As a result, a field goal turned into a touchdown and a 13 point lead. A few  minutes later Jeremy Langford extended the lead to 20 and the game was all but done.

Final score--Michigan State 41 Nebraska 28

With a two game lead in their division a spot in the Big 10 conference championship is well withing reach for Michigan State with two left, but neither of their remaining opponents are going to make it easy for them (Northwestern and Minnesota).
