End of the Road Near for Adrian Peterson in Minnesota? Possibly...

He's rushed for over 10,000 yards over the last eight years for the Minnesota Vikings. He's scored 91 touchdowns (86 rushing; 5 receiving). He has single-handedly carried the Vikings at time; the only thing that has made them worth watching.

Yet the team wants to ditch him.

Rumors began to circle during the off-season that the team may be looking to move from the best running back in the league while they can still get a lot for him in trade and before he hits the inevitable decline.
But its crazy, right? There is no reason to think he is going to decline other than most backs do, but he has never been like most backs. Why assume he is going to be now? There is no reason to, but with the way the game is trending he may not be worth the money he is making.

The game has been moving more and more to feature passing in recent years. It is rare to see a single running back carry the load anymore. Most teams go with the running back by committee approach and have a handful of backs they use according to situations.

Should the Vikings start to follow that trend it will not make sense to pay a player what Peterson makes for being a part-time contributor (base salary of $11.75 million in 2014; $12.75 million in 2015).

So yeah--it does make sense from a business standpoint to say goodbye sooner rather than later.
