Don't Be Surprised if Texans WR Andre Johnson Retires

The notion sounds crazy, right? Here he is a 32 year old in the NFL, one of the best in the game, and set to make a pretty hefty chunk of change this season. Why on Earth would he consider retiring?

Easy--he's tired of losing.

@HoustonTexans

It's been no secret that he is unhappy with the state of the Houston Texans. After the team won back to back division titles and a pair of playoff games the future was supposed to be bright--but that was before Matt Schaub forgot how to play and Arian Foster was injured.

Now Schaub is gone and he is staring a rebuilding season (or two or three) in the face with a less than desirable quarterback. So it is easy to see why he doesn't want to be in Houston right now--but he's kind of stuck.

He's under contract and Houston doesn't have to trade him. Even if they wanted to chances are they will not get what they want for him. Yeah--he's one of the best in the game, but he's getting old and he has an injury history.

So if he really wants out retirement is the only option.

He's already passed on a cool million dollars for skipping OTAs so either he really doesn't care or he's been smart enough with his money another million doesn't matter. Over the course of his career he has definitely made more than enough for his family to live on.

Chances are ESPN or FOX will snatch him up once he does retire and stick him in front of a camera anyway.

It would not be the first time a star player walked away from the game if he chooses to go that route (right Barry Sanders?). Texans fans can only hope it doesn't happen again.
