New England Patriots Are No Longer the Place to Be Anymore

At one time the New England Patriots were the place to be. Free agents were willing to take less money to go there. Why? As much as every player wants to make a bundle of money winning the Big One is something they all want as well. So they could rationalize giving up some money for a season or two knowing they'll make up for it later.

However, that was than and this is now and now the Patriots are not the place to be. Just ask Kevin Williams.

Former Minnesota Vikings defensive linemen signed with the Seattle Seahawks over the weekend instead of going with the Patriots. Word is that New England offered the 33-year old more money, but he opted to go elsewhere.

“The Patriots sometimes lure players to town for less money because of the appeal of playing with Tom Brady in a winning program, but this was a case where it went the other way, even with Williams’ former defensive line coach Brendan Daly now in New England,” ESPN's Mike Reiss added.

At this point in a player's career it is not surprising to see them want to capitalize on their earning potential. At the same time it is not surprising to see them give up money in order to have a better chance at post season glory.

Besides--he's going to make a lot of money no matter where he is. Maybe he could have made $6 million in New England, but the $5 million he is going to make in Seattle is nothing to shake a stick at either.
