Georgia Recruit Accused of Burglarizing Dorm Room During Recruiting Event

Back in the day I was lucky enough to go on one recruiting trip as a high school football player. I was actually there for academics, but since it was a DIII school and I listed football on my application they treated me like a recruit. Needless to say--coolest weekend ever (at least when I was 17).

The last thing that I thought of doing was sneaking in to another dorm room and stealing a bunch of credit cards like a Georgia recruit did over the weekend.

The Bulldogs were hosted a number of recruits over the weekend as part of Dawg Night. It ended up being a decent weekend for the football team; four players committed to the team. A pending arrest due to a burglary that occurred will put a damper on the weekend though.

At least it appears the police are going to get their man.

"We do have the person identified,” UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We know them to be visiting our campus as a football recruit. How he got access to the residence hall, an access-controlled facility, was he was spending the night with two other football players. He was bunked out with these two other football players for the night.”

The person in question (who has not been named) walked in to the room of two female athletes around 7:30 Saturday morning and took some credit cards and an iPhone5. He made enough noise to wake them, but it is not known whether they saw enough to identify him.

So here this kid is. He must be a good athlete to be at this event. He must have the potential to play college ball, and one would think good enough grades to get admitted (or the team wouldn't bother with him).

But he just has to steal while he is there and has now probably ruined his chances of getting in anywhere (teams will find out; no one wants a thief).

As an old professor of mine used to say--stupid, stupid, stupid!
