Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew: London Deserves an NFL Franchise

Over the last few years NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has talked about the league expanding overseas each off-season. London of course comes to mind since the league has been playing a couple games a year there, and this coming season there will be three.

For the most part players are not crazy about it during the season because of the toll all the travel takes on the body, but there is at least one player that is all for it--Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

The Raiders are going to be playing the Miami Dolphins during Week Four of this season. In advance of the game a handful of players have been talking to SkySports. When it was Jones-Drew's turn he was asked what he thought about London ever getting its own franchise:
“You know what?” Jones-Drew began. “I think they deserve one. It’s just the toll it takes on the body because it’s so hard to fly across the pond. I think the fans deserve it and London deserves it because it is a great city.
“My only worry is the toll it would take for a team to go back and forth and how would you get that done? There are some things they would have to work on – they might have to bring the Concorde back and cut that time in half. But you never know.”
It sounds great to say, but will it ever really happen? Probably not. With the concern that get raised about the time difference between the East Coast and West Coast there is no way that the Players Union will go for travelling across an ocean.

Even if visiting teams get to have a bye week after they play in London there is nothing the league can do for the eight games the franchise will have to travel across the Atlantic for.
