Door Could Be Opening for Oakland Raiders Rookie QB Derek Carr

When the Houston Texans traded Matt Schaub to the Oakland Raiders fans rejoiced. With his contract there was doubt that they could get anything for him and while a late round pick is not much it is better than nothing. As for Oakland, the general train of thought was they had the immediate answer to the quarterback issues that plagued them.

What? Didn't they watch any of his game film from last season?

To be fair to Schaub he has been good in the past, but when a player's confidence gets shaken if he doesn't get it back somehow he's going to continue to have issues. Well-if the preseason is any indication Schaub has not found his mojo.

Through three games he is 24-47 for 218 yards and an interception.

Now since this is preseason play we are talking about that would normally mean nothing. Lots of guys look horrible in the preseason and become studs once it means something. However, with the new emphasis on illegal contact even the worst quarterbacks have looked like studs.

Mark Sanchez is now trade bait--Mark Sanchez!

Yet for some reason Raiders head coach Dennis Allen remains committed to Schaub, but if he wants to change his mind he has an out. Schaub is hurt.

It sounds like nothing serious, but is the exact window Allen could use to insert rookie Derek Carr. In two preseason games Carr has thrown for 183 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while completing 19 of 32 passes.

Matt McGloin has not been bad either. In three games his completion percentage has been a shade above 50 percent (28-50), but he's been a lot more productive (366 yards and three touchdowns).

It's not a lot better than Schaub, but it is better.
