Minnesota Vikings Fans Will Have Someone to Love and Hate With Matt Cassell Starting at Quarterback [GIF]

After last season one of the last things that Minnesota Vikings fans wanted to see was Matt Cassell lining up behind center for Week One of the 2014 season. He did play better than the 'other guy' that played QB for the time last season, but that isn't saying much.

More of the same was not what the fans wanted--but it's what they got (sort of).

Cassell is one of those guys that is capable, but being capable and being worthy of starting in the NFL are two different things. That being said, thanks to the NFL's desire to call even incidental contact a penalty being capable is all that is necessary.

Coverage is going to be softer going forward and as a result it is going to be much easier for a talented wide receiver to get open--like Cordarrelle Patterson (in the GIF above).

So when he's making plays like that fans are going to love him--but then there will be plays like this:

And fans will hate him.

Keep practicing and getting better Teddy Bridgewater. It's not going to be a question of if they will need you, but when.

  1. Had the lineman blocked at all, that wouldn't have happened. Cassell, nor Bridgewater, would have avoided that from happening. If you'll notice, the defender deliberately punched the ball out of his hand. He was already backed up to the goal line. He had nowhere to go. Cassell has looked very well this preseason, and not bad when playing last season. How about supporting our QB and giving him encouragement and support instead of being like a Chiefs fan.

    1. Child please! Every QB has looked good this season thanks to the new emphasis on illegal hands on defenders. Even Mark Sanchez looks good! Mr Buttfumble himself! The Cassell we see now is not the Cassell that played last season because of the way the game is being called. Get your head out of the clouds and come back down to reality man.--A true and honest football fan--
