Who am I talking about? Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver John Brown.
Nothing! So allow me a little leeway here.
For the team to take him in the third round out of a small division II school--Pittsburg State--they had to see something they liked in the smallish wide receiver (5'10" and 179 pounds). His production with the Gorillas was certainly notable (all-time leader in receptions (185), receiving yards (3,380) and receiving touchdowns (34) for Pitt State), but it was still just a division II school.
Why take him?
Well--after watching him play against the Bengals Sunday night I'd say it's because he's fast as heck (4.35 in the 40 at the combine), knows how to get open, and will do whatever it takes to make the play. He may be small and his blocking needs work, but he can get that with time and the right strength coach.
Michael Floyd is a solid compliment to Larry Fitzgerald, but with the cap hit the Cardinals are going to take next season for Fitzie it would not be shocking to see him become a salary cap casualty next off-season. Should that be the case do not be surprised if Brown becomes the No. 2.

ReplyDeleteSorry about the error folks. That's what happens when you try to multitask sometimes.
ReplyDeleteJust a wee spelling error. It's Pittsburg (no 'H") State. We're just a lil ole football school from SE Kansas.
