Chiefs LB Dee Ford and Head Coach Andy Reid Respond to Questions About the Infamous Frank Gore Play

Something very unusual and quite perplexing happened during Sunday's Chiefs-49ers game. A rookie known for being a beast of a linebacker during his college days--former Auburn standout Dee Ford--appeared to run away from an opportunity to make a play on 49ers running back Frank Gore. It was a shock to watch and led to whole lot of discussion and criticism online.

Was he clueless? Was he scared? What the heck happened?

Reid tried to offer an excuse for his rookie linebacker (via ArrowheadPride):
"Yeah, he probably thought it was a play action there, at least that's the way it looked," Reid said. "I haven't had the chance to talk to him on that, but I know it probably didn't look the best, but listen, he did some good things too. He'll look back on that one say and I'm sure he'd say the same thing you're saying, what was I doing?"
All true with the exception of the first sentence. Kaepernick had already handed off to Gore by time Ford pulled his disappearing act.Gore has yet to attempt a pass in his career so it wasn't a trick play either.

Reid is just trying to cover for his player; an understandable and respectable move. As for Ford. he responded in the best way he could:

Okay. I can respect that.

We look forward to seeing that response.
