Oakland Raiders Still Looking in to Possibly Moving to San Antonio

Oakland Raiders interim head coach Tony Sporano buried a football at practice to symbolize burying the past. It's a symbolic move that he hopes will help the players forget the failures in their recent past and focus on the remaining games in the season. If a recent survey the team is taking produces the right results he may get the chance to bury more than just a football.

He can bury the Oakland Raiders--and say hello to San Antonio.

The Raiders want a new stadium in Oakland, but do not seem to be hearing what they want from city officials. If they happen to hear what they want from a survey they are conducting along with officials from San Antonio they may take the team to Texas.

"They need to determine what the appetite for support would be in San Antonio if they were to play here," Michael Sawaya, the city's facilities director, said. "That's basic diligence that you have to produce."

The survey is hoping to get an image of three things:
  • will people spend $1500 on season tickets in the lower level of the Alamodome?
  • will companies buy luxury box suites?
  • will the team be well received?
How many people the survey was sent to has not been made public. The cost of it--$50,000-- has been split by the city and the team 50/50.
