Tennessee Titans Possibly Have a New Thunder and Lightning Combo in the Works?

In today's NFL the trick to a good running game is no longer having one stud running back that can tote the rock 25-35 times a game for every game of the season. No, the secret to rushing success is having at least a two-headed monster (if not three). Kansas City is enjoying that right now with Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis and Philadelphia with Darren Sproles and LeSean McCoy.

Tennessee had it once with LenDale White and Chris Johnson, aka Thunder and Lightning. If a recent acquisition is any indication it looks like they may have a sequel to the former dynamic duo.

On Wednesday the team announced that it had signed former Washington Redskins running back Lache Seastrunk to the practice squad:

During his career at Baylor and with the Redskins during the preseason he certainly exhibited an ability to make defenders miss. If given an opening he was quite capable of exploding through it and getting in to open territory.

When that happened and he turned on the jets he was gone.

So Seastrunk has lightning covered? What about the thunder?

That would be fellow rookie Bishop Sankey. The highest drafted back in the last draft, Sankey is expected to get a much bigger role in the offense going forward. In the limited time that he's had in the first four weeks he's performed well showing some elusiveness as well as an ability to churn out the tough yards when needed (hence being the thunder).

This is not to say that Shonn Greene is done. An average of 4.7 yards a carry is nothing to shake a stick at, but with the quarterback woes the Titans have been forced to deal with they have had a hard time committing to the run.

Should he pan out as well as Sankey and Seastrunk (after he is promoted off the practice squad) the front seven of Tennessee's opponents may want to watch out.
