TCU's Remaining Schedule May Knock it Out of the College Football Playoffs

TCU is so much fun to watch play. They have a defense that just flies around and is capable of dominating opponents. They are a nightmare of opposing defensive coordinators because if you key on the run than Trevone Boykin picks you a part. After a stellar performance against Kansas State it was nice to see them be recognized as the No. 4 team in the nation.

It's just a shame that they will probably not stay there even if they win out.

In years past a team could virtually guarantee they would remain ranked as high as they were simply by winning whatever games they had left on their schedule. The prevailing logic was that since they won it didn't make sense for them to fall in the rankings.

With the advent of the College Football Playoffs and the selection committee that is no longer the case. Strength of schedule and performance against quality opponents matters. The Horned Frogs do not have a quality opponent or a strong schedule down the stretch.

This coming Saturday they play a 3-6 Kansas team that is actually worse than their record shows, of the three remaining Texas is the best, but they are a .500 team. They wrap up the regular season with Iowa State (2-7).

For TCU to make it in to the playoffs they are going to have to not only blow out their three remaining opponents but probably hope that someone loses--which is possible. Mississippi State plays Alabama this weekend and still has Ole Miss left. Oregon's weak schedule could help them out (Oregon State and Colorado but they do have the PAC-12 championship).

Florida State would fall out if they lose to Miami this weekend (a vastly underrated team), but otherwise will be heavily favored against Florida and whoever they face in the ACC Championship.

Good thing is Trevone Boykin will probably return for his senior season so if it doesn't happen now there is next year to look forward to.
