Alabama WR Amari Cooper Will Not Win the Heisman But He'll Probably Be Drafted Before the Winner

It is widely expected that Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is going to run away with the Heisman this year. With the stats he's collected this season it is understandable. Had Mariota not had the kind of year he had we probably would be seeing one of the closest races in recent history between Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon and Alabama's Amari Cooper.

Cooper is probably okay with losing the award because chances are he's going to be drafted before the other two anyway.

The idea may sound crazy with Mariota being available, but dual threat quarterbacks haven't exactly been doing a great job of late. Cam Newton has struggled this season and while Russell Wilson and the Seahawks are doing fine their passing game is seriously lacking. We don't know how Johnny Manziel will do just yet, and Robert Griffin III--well, we all know how he's turned out so far.

Mariota would be the sexy pick, but a team is more likely to go for someone that they feel more confident will be able to make an impact sooner rather than later. In the modern day NFL that would mean picking the guy that caught 115 passes for 1656 yards and 16 touchdowns.

There are five teams with 2-11 records: Jets, Raiders, Jaguars, Titans, and Buccaneers. The Raiders and Jaguars will definitely not be looking for a quarterback; Titans probably will not be either. New York needs lots of things and would actually do well to trade down for more picks. Of the five the Buccaneers could go for a quarterback, but it would not be surprising to see them go for a running back either.

All five could use a play-maker like Amari Cooper though.
