Arizona Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu's Mother Indicted on Medicare Fraud Charges

One of the bad things about being in professional sports is that not only does every bad thing you do became media fodder, but anything involving your family does as well. Arizona Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is quite familiar with the media spotlight, but it appears that this time the focus is not on him.

It's on his mother, Sheila, who has been indicted on charges relating to a $30 million Medicare fraud case.

Mathieu's mother was one of 20 people that federal prosecutors indicted on 26 conspiracy charges Thursday.

A registered nurse, she worked for a New Orleans home health care company that fraudulently billed Medicare for $30 million worth of unnecessary home health services. She has been accused of filling out false evaluations that allowed the company to bill for services that were not needed or never performed.

Sheila Mathieu's name appeared on just three of the indictments, one for conspiracy to commit fraud and two for fraud. Should she be convicted the max penalty is 35 years in prison.
