Some, like Brandon Spikes, could not believe what had just happened. As much as it surprised Spikes the reaction he got from fans to his reaction surprised him even more.

The following tweets are representative of the vast majority of the responses Spikes received:
@BrandonSpikes51 just don't murder people
— dk (@darryLk29) April 15, 2015
@BrandonSpikes51 Why? Was that not an open and shut case? He's going down on the double murder too.

@BrandonSpikes51 relax your buddy is a murderer, deal with it
— matt zeigler (@MattZeigler3) April 15, 2015
@BrandonSpikes51 Why? Is it hard for you to understand "don't kill people"? #Ridiculous
— Daniel G. Pifer Jr. (@DannyPifer) April 15, 2015
@BrandonSpikes51 I'll be happy to explain it to you... When you murder someone, you go to jail for it...even if you are a rich athlete
— Holy City Sinner (@HolyCitySinner) April 15, 2015
Spikes was not happy that his friend was not getting more empathy from the world so he decided to ditch Twitter for a while:
Let me get off this cus yall wanna joke and shit smh #coldworld
— BrandonSpikes51 (@BrandonSpikes51) April 15, 2015
He ended his day with this:
I'll get back on tmrw when yall done fake caring
— BrandonSpikes51 (@BrandonSpikes51) April 15, 2015
I'm not sure what he means by 'fake caring.' Folks don't like murderers and do not feel any sympathy towards one. If Spikes is going to put his own opinion out there on social media--which he is entitled to--he should expect to get the reaction that he got.
